O vrime (O Time) 2017

Galerija AŽ, Zagreb, Croatia
chalk, partly erased chalk
typeface: Vita

The piece belongs to Protean Cycle, a group of works being transformed succesively
over the duration of the presentation. Four lines from the song O vrime cestito, written by the Renaissance poet Džore Držić, were made visible step by step during 30 days.
The letters were appearing in the alphabetic order, being erased a day after and then rewritten, palimpsest-like, on the following day.

Džore Držić (1461–1501)

O vrime pridrago, kako se pritvori!

Sve dobro i blago gnjivno t‘ mi razori,

ter kad bih naučan uživat milosti,

od njih sam razlučan i svake radosti.

O hours dearest to me, so much you alter!

All good and gentle you waste in anger,

when I knew the joy I was forced to depart,

had to leave behind all that mirth and delight.
